Sunday, June 29, 2008 @ 6:38 AM Finally, someone set off our hostel's fire alarm! My first fire evacuation experience. I thought it was a false alarm or practice session, so I stood calm. The sound of the alarm almost burst my eardrums. But, later there were staff asking us to evacuate. On my way out, there was a burnt smell (more like grilled lamb), so i thought this was for real! Everyone of us, still in our pjs, had to leave the building. Not more than 2minutes later, the firemen arrived! How efficient is that? Even getting into a car and coming out of it takes more time than that! Four bold firemen went into the building investigate. As for the rest of us, we were left shaking in the cold breezy weather, wondering what was actually happening. To our disappointment, it wasn't something 'big'. :P It was one of batchmate, who left the fire resistant kitchen door open, and the smoke from the kitchen set the corridor's alarm off! Moral of the story, use the microwave oven whenever you can =) Save the firemen an unnecessary trip. 0 shouts. |
