Like Hui Yen Right now, other than the world most famous "Oh No, SHIT!", my favourite saying is "Oh My God!". It's not because I'm a religious person, the word just sticks to me. It just adds extra oohm to your statement doncha agree? It is more effective than using a exclamation mark!!!! Below are some pet phrases, very frequently used by Malaysians. And, only Malaysians would understand. We all love to use 'em. Top 10 Most Addictive Pet Phrases 1. OMG - The most overused and abused pet phrase used by all walks of life. I've abused it a lot. 2. What the... ! - Most often used when shit happens. 3. Mother (Ma De) - hahaha i have no idea why chinese likes to curse other people's mother! poor mommies! 4. Abuthen - i think this was started by Phua Chu Kang. Origin should be hokkien. But this word has evolved to "Abaden", "Bubuden"... 5. Jia Lat - Personally, one of my favourites. I don't use it tho hahha. Its really contagious. It was started by Hui Yen, now spread to Hui Bee. Jia Lat is also Hokkien, which means something that needs a lot of strength to do something. BUT, Jia Lat is synonymous to terrible, tak boleh, thick skinned etc etc. 6. takbolehtaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahan - I like this the best! This phrase just shows how irritating a person or a thing is. The longer the 'ta' is held, the more severe the irritation haha. The source of this contagious disease is Yieng. 7. Awww - An expression of endearment, or when you feel like something is cute or sweet. I overused this as well. 8. Wa Piang!! - Ok. to be honest with ya, I have no idea what this means. It is always coming out from Hui Yen, and when she uses this word, she hits her forehead at the same time! Ha! Its her trademark! I'm guessing it means Celaka or something. 9. Wahlau! - The malaysian version of "whoa!". Some likes to add the "-eh" behind, which becomes Wahlau-eh instead. 10. DNMCH/DNMCB/Diu/Niama/CB/CH etc etc - whoaaa.. chinese can be very crudely indecent when it comes to vulgarity. According to Steph, vulgarity sometimes can actually accentuate a statement. She said, "which of these is a better expression? A. "This food is very tasty." B. "Wah, this food is damn 7 tasty loh." or A. "I can't stand her!" B. "CB, She is so jialat! I tak boleh taaaaaaaaaaaaaahan lor!" Undoubtedly, I have to agree with her. Actually, there are way more than 10 addictive pet phrases. Like how we, Malaysians, use -la, -lo, -ma, -liao as punctuations/fullstops. And, in H7 (my flat), Jac's most commonly used pet phrase - I TELL U (in mandarin) 我跟你讲, and its affecting the house of H7! Steph - DNM! hahah only she uses it. She can also sing when saying that phrase. Hui Bee - 他很不能的啦! Now, it has become H7 trademark pet phrase. Jamie - 鸡的! Well I don't actually know where did that originate from or why would anyone wanna curse a chicken. I was infected by Wai Jane. Swearing 鸡的! is a more polite way to scold CB, imho. Notice the carvings on the ceiling and pillars.  Hb . Steph & Sue . Moi!    At monument de Belem. This monument was built in memory of those who sacrifice for their country. Google or wikipedia it, for more info. :P  If you loved sejarah, I'm sure you'd remember Alfonso Albuqueque.   Belem Tower. Was used as defence.   Portugese Tart of Pastries de Belem! Best of the Best in Portugal. Sprinkle some icing sugar and cinnamon powder to make it even more tasty!   Toured around the city of Lisbon. Many interesting buildings and statues. Seeing things like Ayam Brand and Maggi instant noodles make me feel closer to home.  Never knew grocery shopping could be of so much fun! Becoming an aunty already.  Too bad the ang mohs dunno how to appreciate good white silken taufu. Japanese tofu, best thing ever invented.  No fresh tiger prawns here. Only frozen shell-less ones. Expires in year 2010 O.O *gulps*   The essentials, especially on those lazy chilly days.  I miss those cheap Yam flavoured pearl tea from Pasar Malam. It costs a bomb here :(  ZUK TAN! My most missed seafood! This was how i spent my saturday! Labels: Life 0 shouts. @ 4:16 AM It seems like winter came early in Glasgow. The temperature is slowly decreasing. My winter boots and windbreaker can come into use, finally! New semester has just started. It’s pretty ok so far. Some home students have been really cold, but some are really nice and friendly. Some are chatty, too chatty in fact. I couldn’t grasp what they were saying, because they speak at the speed of a bullet train and my mind operates at much lower speed, especially in the mornings. Here’s a short update on what’s been happening, There’s a skin rash epidemic hitting James Blyth Court. Many have suffered sudden outbreak of red bumps and patches on the body. Slowly, the rash becomes more intensely itchy and red. Initially, only few people were infected. But, as days go by, more and more people were developing the same type of rash. 4 out of the 7 of us who went Spain got the rash. Being the concerned mom, Hb (she wasn’t infected, so was I) suggested that those who got infected should go to the hospital, since NHS is paying for our medical consultation with the GP. So, 5 of us walked against the chilly wind (temperature then was 4C, mind you!) to the Accident & Emergency ward, in the middle of the night. Super melebih, I know. The receptionist was shocked to see so many of us. The expression on her face looks as if we have started a new disease outbreak that will bring harm to their country. Sadly, after a long discussion between the nurses and doctors, inspections over and over again, they came up with no conclusion. They suspected it to be flea bites, flea from the beds of our hostels we stayed during our stay at Spain. I feel really sorry for those who got them, especially the serious ones. Antihistamines aren’t doing much good to them. And today (9 days after my trip), a few itchy bumps developed on both of my arms! First the alcohol rash, and now, bug bites? Why am I always getting rashes? =/ Labels: Life 0 shouts. Wednesday, October 01, 2008 @ 2:55 AM NEW SEASONS OF DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES GOSSIP GIRLS GREY'S are OUT! I am so dead. I am deader than a corpse. Ha! I'm so lame. I've been a bed potato, not couch, for quite some time already. And I still will be. I finished 40 epis of tong sum fong bou in 3 days. Survived with cereals and only one carbo meal for those three days. What to do? When you are all alone overseas with no family and pet dog to play with :( but I love being a bed potato :) Labels: Life 0 shouts. |
