Wednesday, July 23, 2008 @ 1:25 AM Back from Aberdeen and Inverness. Now wiser, 150 pounds poorer, and 1000 more of cam whore pictures! =) 18/7/08 - Aberdeen. Here's a brief introduction of the town. "The Flower of Scotland, The Silver City by the Golden Sands…Aberdeen wears its titles with pride. A prosperous cosmopolitan city, with a historical old town, Aberdeen has one of Scotland’s most striking skylines. Here is a quintessentially northern city, whose granite makes buildings sparkle after rain; whose outlook is across the seas rather than to the Central Belt; and whose speech retains the Scots idiom as part of everyday communication." We woke up at 7am, rushed our way to the train station because we were late for our 8.25am ride! But, we made it, of course. We got comfortable! I slept on and off throughout the journey, to catch up on the sleep I missed last night. Too excited, couldn't sleep. Ha, yea right. "The City of Aberdeen with a proud and fascinating history presents a modern cosmopolitan image to visitors. A thriving cultural calendar, lively theatre, and vibrant nightlife, along with excellent restaurants and attractions makes Aberdeen an energising city break choice." And we arrived at Aberdeen, the Granite City. We were all excited and anticipated! So, it is true that all buildings in Aberdeen are greyish silver in colour, all made of granite. Hence, the Granite City. Duh~ Our hostel was roughly 45minutes walk from the train station. Semangatnya, we walked all the way. As kiam as always, tryna save cab money. It was a lot further than we thought. We arrived at Aberdeen Youth Hostel. At Union Terrace Garden, Trying to imitate my dog shitting, but failed terribly. "Some things don’t change. You cannot escape the sea here, not since it was founded as a Royal burgh back in 1124. The influence of the harbour is everywhere (as are the gulls!), and the harvest of the North Sea continues. Where once streamlined clipper ships left the slipways for the China tea trade, now oil executives from all over the world drive to their comfortable homes in the suburbs." Aberdeen's harbour. Basically, there are many attractions in Aberdeen. But, of all days, River Island sale had to start today, so, our first destination was ... RIVER ISLAND! Initially tired, but after arriving at St Nicholas Shopping Centre, me and Sue were hyped once again! Going into River Island is SUICIDAL! The Art Musuem. Aberdeen is a small town-like city, and the level of energy is low low low, contradicting to what that was written in the internet. For me, the only part of the city that is energetic is River Island boutique, hahahahha somebody please shoot me! "Aberdeen has one of Scotland’s most striking skylines" Most striking skylines? I think the tallest building I saw during my visit was the Marichal College. Seriously, I think they should visit Malaysia. For once, I feel so proud of my country. Marichal College. All in all, Aberdeen is a peaceful city, just like Glasgow. They are quite similar, (except that Glasgow has 2 much bigger River Island (shoot me again)) both cities are very slow, non-hectic, and they have many german cars (the amount of BMW and Merc here is equivalent to our Proton and Perodua in Msia)and English architectural buildings everywhere, but Glasgow has much more to offer. More restaurants, more crowd, more happening. Glasgow is a much busier city, busier than Aberdeen, but still peaceful, so you can imagine how (But, it is not fair to compare Aberdeen with Glasgow la. Glasgow is, nevertheless, the biggest city in Scotland. I'm so mean. =( ) Aside from the impressive architecture, the city looks dull because of the greyish buildings and it is definitely not as energetic as claimed. Seriously, I was rather disappointed. I should have known better that we couldn't trust the tourism of Scotland website. Because I didn't see this, ![]() ![]() Or this, ![]() But, the company was all that matters! Will post pictures of Inverness soon. Need to sort them out before posting. Hugs! 0 shouts. Friday, July 18, 2008 @ 5:08 AM Jamie will be MIA for 3 days. These are the places where she will be disappearing to... ![]() Excuse the unsteady hand of mine. =) Wish me a safe journey and lotsa fun! Mackintosh was responsible for modeling the outside of the building as well as the interior, and even the design of the cutlery! The Willow Tearooms are an ideal place to relax after a hard day shopping in Glasgow City Centre, in the surroundings of Charles Rennie Mackintosh." Stephanie found this fabulous tea house from her Lonely Planet, Scotland. This book is even more important than her BNF. There are two tearooms. We went to the Chinese styled one. Not as Chinese-y as it could be. Basically, there's nothing chinesey bout this room except for the Pagoda lamp, which is more Thai-ish than Chinesey. And the room should be red, instead of blue. Chinese always like 'ang' ma. Sugar cubes! Charles Rennie Mackintosh Scrambled egg with smoked salmon. Really tasty =) My lemon meringue pie! Meringue tastes and feels like a cotton candy, except it is crispy on the outside. Its super sweeeeeeeeeeeet till my teeth hurt! Jacked potato with tuna! Scones with raisins. I know I do shop a bit more than what I should be spending, but being BRANDED AS a SHOPPING QUEEN is not something that I'm proud of! Seriously, am i this bad? Ok it has never occured to me that I am in such critical condition. And I once thought only rich people can afford to be a shopaholic. And I am NOT ok! Not like I have a super rich father who gives me a platinum credit card and let me shop till HE drops or gives me a stack of cash and let me spend on Gucci or Prada bags! Back at home I only get a measly RM50 per week. Now to think of it, I dunno how I survived with that money haha! But I did work to pay for all my shopping trips. Now that I'm here, I think I lost control of myself. Like a caged bird released! Khai Yong told me my wallet must be crying, and I think I hear it weeping silently at night too. Crap. I think i need to pay the shrink a visit. All these summer sales is making me go bananas! And of all the days, River Island had to choose Friday to start sale! I'm going Aberdeeeeeeeen on fridaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! Ah. Ok I know you guys are judging me now. I AM a true shopaholic. I think I must reflect myself tonight before sleep. But you have no idea how much cheaper the clothes are during sale wei! I swear River Island sale would be my last visit, for this week, and maybe the next O=). Promise! ;) I shop but i also refund! haha. I'm just making full use of my rights as consumer here ma. 0 shouts. Saturday, July 12, 2008 @ 7:12 AM AAAAHHH!!! i was the first to get shooed of out the class during PP3 class test today! I got kicked out because I ran in class. Ya. Dumb of know. Of all the reason for not being able to pass PP3 test is to get kicked out of the class because you RAN. Getting -60 for giving a wrong dose wouldn't have felt this bad. Just not my day. Anne Boyter never taught us in any of our pp3 classes before. Thank god for that. But, the devil had to come during our test to make our lives miserable (mine especially). Sigh. Actually, I was feeling quite positive about this test, because I read the MEP a few times and did many prescriptions on SPIDER. So I thought I was ready for the game. We were given 4 prescrptions, and had to finish everything in two hours. For first timers like us, it was nerve-wrecking as hell. I was lucky to get one of the few prescriptions that are more straight forward. Too bad i didn't manage to finish the last one before i got kicked out =( Anne boyter did catch someone running in the lab before me. So she already warned us not to run. But I was too overjoyed when I found my medication on the shelf. Like a little girl who found her missing candy. Subconsciously, I walked faster than usual. All thanks to my lousy pumps plus my big fat feet, which gave a loud 'thud thud thud' sound. Until i realise i was actually running, it was too late. 'YOU! OUT OF THE LAB!', Anne Boyter shouted from behind. Everyone, who was initially busy minding their own business, looked up. Everyone's eyes were on me. And I didn't know what to do. I looked down at my oral contraceptive pills, baffled and disappointed. I was too traumatised to be able to make any movement. 'OUT! I SAID!'. I have no choice but to quickly place my medication and BNF on the table and walked out of the lab. I felt ashamed, and also very lonely at the same time. sooob.... Why is she so cranky all the time? Its like she's PMS-ing everyday. No wonder she's not married. Is she? BUT, THANK GOD ITS JUST A PRACTICE TEST. So I couldn't be bothered too much lar. It's not assessed anyway =P I had a bad day, so retail therapy was essential, to heal my wounded soul. Haha. My family and the 'house guest'! Spot the celebrity? No not me! Is it just me, or does Sook Hui look a lot like Sammi Cheng? Btw, that's my Zara trench coat! I love it so much! One of the very last thing I would take and refund =) Free advertising! Even better, we had THAI FOOD! Lemon Grass, opposite Cineworld. Stir-fry pork with dried chillies. Green curry that wasn't green in color. The very longed and missed, TOMYAM!!!! Forgive them. They have not tasted Honeydew and Banana with coconut milk in their life. Candle light dinner! Great food with great company! Love the ambience! Check out the fan on the ceiling! Damn cool rite? Dun ask me bout the price, please! >.< Labels: Outings 0 shouts. Wednesday, July 09, 2008 @ 4:42 AM It has been raining everyday in Glasgow since God knows when. I miss sunshine. I miss home. Labels: Emotions 0 shouts. Tuesday, July 08, 2008 @ 4:22 AM We were all deprived of seafood ever since we left home. To compensate for the lack of shellfish, we went Mussel Inn. I've never eaten mussels like this before. I mean just mussels alone! Heavenly. As kiamsiap as usual, 6 of us ordered 4 1/2kg of mussels, cooked in different sauces. Firstly, we stuffed ourselves with bread, which was refillable, until we were half full. For those who intend to go there, don't be such a cheapskate and keep asking for more bread. Our seniors were blacklisted for asking too much. They had no choice but to charge them! :O Mussels cooked in Thai style, with coconut milk. My favourite! Mussels with white cream sauce, white wine and shallots. No point posting other pictures of mussels because they all look the same :P We ordered Morrocan, which was cooked with chillies. (But apparently, Jac and Sue couldn't feel a single bit of spiciness). Also, blue cheese, cheesy. You'll like it if you are a cheese fan. Labels: Outings 0 shouts. Monday, July 07, 2008 @ 4:25 PM Ok, for the previous post, i feel damn paiseh for mentioning the whole disney thing and also gossip girls. This is what watching too much drama will do to my already-not-so-smart brain :s But, thank you all, to those who cared. =) Some days I feel extremely weak, some days i feel as strong as ever. Yeanz, now i know how it feels like. Anyway, Gossip girls didn't turn out as perfect as i thought. Can't wait for season 2! Nate Archibald is damn freaking hot!! My weekend turned out to be the worst days of the week. Why must the sore throat virus pick me? But that little sore throat didn't stop me and Jac from going to O'Neills for dinner. Our housemates weren't at home, so no one's preparing dinner =( AWWW, see how important you both are to us? But I think i really shouldn't have gone out and stayed in bed. I got fever at night. I was bed-ridden for the whole afternoon of saturday and the whole of sunday. Finally, I can apply my pharmacy knowledge on myself! lol. Like who doesn't know that Paracetamol cures fever. Swt. So there goes my weekend, spending most of my precious time in bed. I can't go out and can't even study or do my lab report. Urgh. All the time wasted. Chicken breast with mushroom sauce. Let me describe how fabulous this dish is. First layer - Thick cheddar cheese. THICK. then - Mashed potato - Button mushroom - Chicken breast meat covered with thick brown sauce! only for 3.5pounds. you should try =) but sadly, the portion is rather small =( I guess the fever was worth it after all. =) Mutton stew. It's common but taste good. Notice the bread on the left? Its Irish! Yummy! Also 3.5 pounds. Just the two of us =) Our housemates ditched us for Edinburgh. *** Hey Kelz, Wish I was back home to celebrate your acceptance to Uni of Queensland. U totally deserve the scholarship! So happy for you. I cant think of a better way to tell you this so i decided to post it here. Hope you won't mind. I'll miss you like hell! As if coming here for a year is not long enough, but you have to go Aus for 4 friggin long years! T.T Anyways, Take care and study hard. Have a safe journey! ps, sorry for the short post, I'm running late for class. Love, J Labels: Outings 0 shouts. |
