Friday, June 20, 2008 @ 5:00 AM I feel ashamed of where I come from. I'm embarrassed of my skin colour. I don't usually feel that way. I realised only after I came to Scotland . Argh. (K lar not so serious) Its just like how we look at certain immigrants in our country. We exhibit certain amount of discrimination to them, somehow. Oh well there is a reason to it. Like how we hate the way the spit regardless of time or place. Also, the fact that our crime rate has increased drastically in recent years etc etc. Now that I'm at Glasgow, I'm a foreigner too. And ever since the day we arrived, we, Malaysians, have commited many things that I'm not very proud of. Hahaha I sound las if we murdered someone. lol We did things like, Running across the street when the pedestrian light was still red. But the cars were at halt as the light was still red too. So, I just ran across the street, hoping that there won't be any cars coming from the other direction. Unfortunately, most of the time we were not that lucky. So, we got many angry stares from drivers. Probably cursing 'Dumb Asians! Are they colour blind?' Luckily, I didn't receive any 'fingers' yet. Cutting queues in the post office and fitting rooms. Well, I didn't do it on purpose. Its just that back in Malaysia, we have queues for each counters or rooms. But they don't do it this way in Scotland. The only have one queue. Paiseh lar. Plus, the other day when we first went to Tesco for grocery shopping, most of us bought many stuff and to carry it all the way back to Strathclyde was mission impossible. So, our only option was to take a cab back, which cost us less than 4 pounds. But, some of us, (not me definitely), couldn't afford 4 pounds. Hence, they resort to stealing Tesco's trolley, and push the trolley all the way back to our hostel. Wtf. I think only Asians would do something like that. Kiasuism. I did something quite stupid today. (not like i disgrace our country or stg la) I went into Dorothy Perkins. They were having sales! Haha too tempting, cannot resist, so we went in. Everything was on sale, and something caught our eyes. Cutesy undies selling at 3 for 2! We were all so excited and it would be a sin not to buy since its less than 80p per piece! At the cashier counter, I felt so wise and contented with my steal, and confidently took out 2pounds and was ready to pay. Then only I realised, its actually 3 pieces for the price of 2! Meaning, buy two free one! Bloody hell I felt so embarrassed and I had to tell the cashier sorry. I would have bought it anyway since I'm very thick-skinned but I just splurged 50pounds at Zara earlier today (woohoo bought a trench coat damn proud!) Ahhh... so I was too poor to save my face. They must be thinking... Asians are super kiam and stupid, and there is 50% of truth in that! Maybe next time when someone ask me which country am I from, I'd just tell them I'm from Singapore lar.. That is the least I could do for my country. 0=) 0 shouts. |
